Leaving the Old Habits and the Family Nest
When I began to work the year before last, I though I had found my place in the society and became satisfied with my situation. Sometimes I read the paper, had a cup of tea and chatted with others during office time. It seemed that I'd become used to that lazy work-life and relaxed every day. But one day things changed.
I had a chance to take a training course in my employer's Shanghai branch. There was hardly any time for me to prepare. Then, after two months practical study in Shanghai, I suddenly found that the world was so wide and colourful. Life should have high morale, be full of vigor and competition. I would never work in that old way again. I should have an aim and try my best to reach it. I should make full use of time, study all kinds of skills and knowledge as well as I could.
Shanghai is the most flourishing and modern city in China. I came to realize that I could hardly find a place in that city for my ignorance. I became worried about my future. I felt great pressure that I never had before. I like Shanghai not only because it is the most booming city, but also because it is a lively city.
After went back to Wuhan, I quit my first job and entered my present company. That was quite a difficult and challenging job for me. I was utterly ignorant of computers, but now I must do everything by computer! I made a decision to study from the very beginning and I did. Now I am busy every day. Sometimes I feel tired but that disappears very quickly. I am an energetic girl now. I'm catching up with life.
I also learned to take care of myself. I went to Shanghai alone. I had to cook , wash, live and work by myself. Nobody could help me and nobody cared for me. You know, that was my first time to leave home and my parents for so long a time, and to be so far away. I suddenly found I was just like a baby! How terrible that was! I calmed down later; there were still two months to go. I had to be really independent under such circumstances. And I was too. I'll never forget that kind of experience, which has changed my whole life. Life is created by ourselves, but not by fate!
yours, rebecca
