Let's Go And See* The Teacher

Situational Dialogues

1. The Plan

Kang

Do you know what is going to be in the exam?

Lee

I have no idea. Let's go and see the teacher.

Kang

Knowing him, he's not likely to give anything away.

Lee

Oh well, we can try.

Kang

You are an optimist. I suppose there is no harm in talking to him though.

Lee

Maybe we should make an appointment. We have to find out when he is free.

Kang

You are more charming than I am. Pretend you have some academic problem and want a discussion.

Lee

Ah, you always trick me into doing the hard jobs.

2. The Proposal

Koo

Excuse me Mr Mackie. Can I talk to you for a moment?

Mackie

Yes of course. What's the problem ?

Koo

A couple of us are worried about the coursework. Could we make an appointment?

Mackie

Well, I'm free right now. Would you like to come to my office ?

Koo

Um, we have a class now. How about tomorrow afternoon?

Mackie

Yes, that should be alright. I can see you about 3pm.

Koo

That's OK. Thank's for your trouble.

Mackie

By the way, can you give me some clue now? Then I can think about the problem.

Koo

Um, er, well, actually we are really worried about the exams. We don't know what to expect.

Mackie

Oh, is that all. The test will be based on our classwork. I'll give everyone the details next lesson.

Koo

Can, uh, you give us some idea of what will be in the test though?

Mackie

If I told you what was in the test, it wouldn't be a test, would it?

Koo

Thank you Mr Mackie.

* Note : Usually you "go to see" (or "go and see") someone in authority in a formal way, while "go to visit" has a more social sense.
This is not a strict rule, but rather the way things are typically expressed.
